Welcome to the very first blog post for Heritage Traction Preservation. This marks the beginning of sharing our journey, our work, and our passion for preserving a unique part of Britain’s railway history.
This past weekend was an important milestone for us, as we spent valuable time working hands-on with Class 143 616. From early starts to long
days on site, the focus was simple: get as much done as physically possible and begin laying solid foundations for the future of the unit.
A huge amount of effort went into cleaning, inspecting, tidying, and generally getting to know 616 inside and out. While not everything can be achieved in one visit, the progress made over the weekend was significant. Each job completed brings the unit one step closer to presenting it in a condition that reflects both its working life and its importance as a preserved vehicle.
More than anything, the weekend highlighted what this project is really about: commitment, teamwork, and genuine enthusiasm for railway heritage. These units mean a lot to many people, and it’s something we take seriously as custodians of them.
We’d like to say a sincere thank you to everyone who has shown support so far. Whether that’s through messages, advice, offers of help, or simply taking an interest in what we’re doing, it truly does make a difference. This project wouldn’t exist without that encouragement.
A separate blog post will be added shortly covering our trip up to the Tanat Valley Light Railway, so please make sure you keep an eye out for that and give it a read when it goes live.
This is only the beginning. There is a lot more work ahead, more updates to come, and plenty more stories to share as Heritage Traction Preservation continues to grow. We’re excited to bring you along for the journey.
